A Los Angeles native, Josh Berman grew up playing music in rock, jazz and classical groups. He went on to study Studio Music & Jazz as a percussionist at the University of Miami. In 2002, he began his marketing career at Warner Bros. Records Jazz, working with some of his idols including Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman and Brian Blade.
Berman moved to NYC in 2004 to work at WBR’s boutique imprint Nonesuch Records, eventually ending up running the international marketing dept., liaising with global Warner Music affiliates from Japan to Brazil, promoting artists as diverse as Wilco, Philip Glass, David Byrne, The Black Keys and Caetano Veloso. In March 2009, he took the plunge into the independent world, as the U.S. Marketing & Publicity Manager for iconic British label Warp Records. Several years later he became the N. American Label Manager, overseeing all aspects of Warp’s activity across distribution, physical and digital sales, marketing and business development with releases from Flying Lotus, Grizzly Bear, Brian Eno, Aphex Twin and more.
After deciding to move back to LA in 2014, Berman accepted the role as Label Manager with legendary industry exec Tom Whalley’s new independent label Loma Vista Recordings, with a diverse roster including St. Vincent, Iggie Pop, Denzel Curry and Andrew Bird. Josh oversaw business development and partner integration with their label services company Concord. By 2017 Josh had been asked to run the newly formed marketing dept. at Concord’s Label Services division, where he created a data ecosystem and in-house advertising strategy that became a benchmark for the industry. Josh is currently SVP, Streaming & Digital Marketing at Concord, where he oversees all streaming, advertising and digital marketing strategy across Concord’s 6 labels and 150+ artists.
