Shannon Sorensen
SVP, Legal and Business Affairs, National Music Publishers' Association
As SVP of Business and Legal Affairs at NMPA, Shannon handles copyright infringement litigations, represents music publishers' interests in license and settlement agreements, and works on royalty rate-setting proceedings. A former hill staffer, she also manages the bulk of NMPA's policy work, advising on domestic legislative and regulatory matters including copyright, trade and AI. She is responsible for NMPA's international portfolio and chairs the North American Regional Group of the International Confederation of Music Publishers. Prior to her current role, Shannon was one of NMPA's two primary lobbyists and was instrumental in passing the Music Modernization Act of 2018 which brought licensing for digital streaming into the modern age. She sits on the board of the Copyright Alliance, a trade organization representing all creative industries in the U.S. Shannon graduated from Brigham Young University's J. Reuben Clark Law School cum laude in 2015.
