Charleton Lamb

Founder, Along With

Charleton Lamb is an entertainment and technology executive that sits at the forefront of developing and marketing tools that simplify the business of creativity. His mission is to help creatives speak the language of technologists, and vice versa, so the world can benefit from more and more art. Throughout his 15+ year career, he’s developed and launched roadmaps and brand strategies for both startups and established companies through various phases of their existence. Currently, he’s the Founder of Along With, a product marketing studio and consultancy positioning and scaling platforms going to market in the music business. Most recently, he was the Head of Marketing for music distribution platform Stem, and ultimately its royalty payment platform Tone. Stem's range of financial tools provide artists and labels with faster payments, greater transparency and increased trust between collaborators. There he developed the brand strategy, narrative and visual language for Tone and signed its first seven deals for the new royalty services business. Some highlights included producing The Other Half, an award-winning video series in partnership with Pigeons & Planes spotlighting up-and-coming artists as well as “15 Years of Fool’s Gold Records,” a behind-the-scenes story of how A-Trak, Nick Catchdubs and their partners turned a love of adventure music into a sustainable business.

For almost four years Charleton was dedicated to creator product marketing at Spotify, where he eventually rose to Team Lead. There he was responsible for Spotify for Artists’ growing suite of digital tools that help artists and labels reach new listeners, connect with their fans and grow their careers. Most notably, he launched Spotify’s first paid marketing tools for the music industry, Marquee, and helped grow the tool to over a million in sales in 2019. He also designed and managed pilot programs for over a dozen Spotify for Artists projects with major and independent labels along with launching Discovery Mode, the tool designed to find new listeners for artists. Some major milestones at the company included writing the legal language for sponsored recommendations that appear in every playlist in the app; launching Spotify’s Direct Upload feature; launching Spotify for Publishing analytics; providing the foundation for future innovations like song credits and songwriter credits; and developing new policies for curbing streaming fraud, a topic he is still passionate about today.

Before Spotify, he spent nearly eight years as a product marketer introducing new technologies to industries like luxury e-commerce, HR systems, networking and security. Stints included being the Director of Product Marketing at Community, a platform for brands, businesses and individuals to have meaningful conversations at scale; as well as Justworks where he helped entrepreneurs take care of their employees so they can focus on building businesses that transform communities and change the world. One of his first professional experiences was working at Google, where he managed relationships with dozens of partner creative agencies to grow the AdWords business and activate selling through the channel.

Charleton graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Comparative Literature and Visual Studies. He is a Board Member for Young New Yorkers, a prison diversion program using arts to keep young people from the criminal justice system. Charleton has spoken at a number of music industry conferences including SXSW, Music Biz and Indie Week among others. He also was a cast member in Hasty Pudding Theatricals 163, the iconic drag musical sensation. When not working, you’ll find him entrenched in TV and film (sci-fi and fantasy), fashion, catching up on pop and internet culture or cooking. He has also never lost a dance battle. Consider yourself challenged.
